When I first saw this strap, my first thought was: card play. Playing cards is usually just seen as a game played for enjoyment or to pass time. In reality, though, it’s so much more than that. It’s about learning strategy, learning how to deal with loss when you tried so hard to win, and being patient while waiting to see how things will turn out. 

Growing up, I played cards all the time with my grandparents. At first, I was a sore loser when I lost. As you can probably imagine, being a sore loser didn’t last long. My grandparents were quick to teach me that there’s nothing wrong with losing because it helps you figure out how to do better the next time you try.

Our wonderful Customer Happiness Agent Faith told me this: “When we think about the word “gamble,” we focus so heavily on the risk that we forget about the reward. Life is a gamble, and while there’s always a possibility of loss, there’s just as much (if not more) possibility for a win. A piece of advice my Dad always gave me when it came to playing poker was to adopt a consistent strategy. He said, “To be a great poker player, you have to think like a winner over and over again. It doesn’t matter if you lost three hands, keep the strategy and think like a winner.” Those rules can be applied to our lives. Don’t let the losses in your life deter you from playing the game. Continue to play like a winner, regardless of recent circumstance; and in the game of life, winners never fold.”

Her words reinforce how important it is to keep your head up through the struggles of life. There are going to be moments when we lose, and there will be times when we win. We learn from every experience, but the most pivotal discoveries are from when we suffer a loss. Especially when we put everything we had towards winning. With this strap, I hope you remember to take what you’ve learned from past disappointments and apply them to each coming challenge. You don’t necessarily need to be good at something to do it well; you just have to be smart about how you go about doing it.
