Story:

A Strap for all the night owls! This Strap is still one of my very favorites because of what it means to me. When we were starting Zox, I had no idea how to make a website. I had talked with friends about it and they were going to try and help, but work always trumped our site and it didn't get done. I still remember the night I was sitting at my kitchen counter, working with Brandon. We were talking about how the site was the last piece of the puzzle, and how if we could just get it done, we could move forward. That's when it hit me: Nobody wants me to succeed as much I do. That's not to say I believe people aren't excited to help others; I know tons of amazing people that would bend over backwards for me. I mean that when it really comes down to it, as an entrepreneur, one of the things you find yourself saying the most is "I'm waiting for so and so to finish xyz." This slows down innovation to a standstill; I know I personally can't work like that, and I know a lot of other folks that can't as well. The old adage rings more true than ever for startups; if you want it done right (and right now!), you have to do it yourself. I remember getting so frustrated at that particular moment that I turned to Brandon and said I didn't care what it took, I was going to build us a site right there, on the spot. I would not quit until it was done. Something amazing happened that night; I was invigorated like never before. I had drawn that line in the sand, making the choice to push forward. I didn't sleep at all, but I felt amazing the next morning. I accomplished what I said I would, and Zox was official. I ended up finding this quote earlier this year that really made me realize what had happened. “I found that every single successful person I’ve ever spoken to had a turning point and the turning point was where they made a clear, specific, unequivocal decision that they were not going to live like this anymore. Some people make that decision at 15 and some people make it at 50 and most never make it at all.” ― Brian Tracy Working late into the night is now one of my favorite things to do; it's very rare to catch me in bed before 3 am. After I made that decision, it became a part of my character, something that's stayed with me ever since. My hope for the Night Owl Strap is that it'll remind you that it's ok to stay up late and pursue your passion; unstoppable determination is a virtue in my book.
