If you have ever been hiking, you have most likely encountered the dilemma of standing at the fork of two trails and not knowing which one to embark on. You might stand there for a while and weigh out your options. One trail may lead to a lookout overseeing the sights below, while another may lead to a captivating waterfall. Both options seem desirable, so how do you choose one? If you choose the lookout, will you always wonder what the waterfall looks like or vice versa? People pass you by as you stand at the fork, easily choosing the trail to the lookout. You wonder why more people have chosen that trail. Does that mean you should choose it because everyone else has? Is there a reason the path to the waterfall seems less traveled? You see, life is just like this. We are often faced with two options; both may be desirable at the time. We fear that if we choose one over the other, we might miss out on what could have been. Oftentimes, that is why we follow the masses, thinking that if everyone else is making the same decision we are, it surely must be the right one. We fail to recognize that if everyone chooses the path to the lookout, it leaves the view obscured by too many people, while the waterfall remains empty and awaiting visitors. Don’t get stuck on the overcrowded path; you may reach your destination and realize there is nothing special about a place that everyone has also been. Choose the path less traveled, and you never know what amazing things the unknown might lead you to.
